Kevin, Trevor and Jamie have been shorn alpacas at Rivergum Rise during the past 7 years and we are more than happy with the job they have done.  In full swing with 4 shearing stations and just two shearing this season, we had a shorn alpaca coming off the shearing floor every 2 minutes.

Give Kevin, Trevor or Jamie a call to book your shearing - get in early for next year too.

Kevin and Trevor also shear in the USA each year in April-May... Trevor then travels from the USA to England where he shears alpacas for 1-2 months.

Roustabouts

Why not get your shearer to bring along a professional roustabout to maximise your fleece returns and reduce the workload for you.  Kevin and Trevor both have rousties that travel with them.

Amanda Davis often travels with Kevin on the Western Australian alpaca shearing circuit.  Amanda is a professional roustabout, trains for TAFE WA and has competed in the WA roustabouting circuit winning the intermediate section and representing WA at the Adelaide Royal Show where she placed second in 2004.  Amanda has four years experience in handling alpaca fibre.  Amanda is also versatile in all aspects of alpaca shearing from turning, toenails and injections ... once alpaca owners have had Amanda working in their shearing shed, they never look back.

Tania Gellatly is a professional internationally accredited wool classer who brings to the industry eight years of classing fleece wool and has been working with both Kevin and Trevor in the alpaca shearing industry for the last year and along with Amanda is available to help you not only to prepare your alpaca fibre for you, but to help you learn along the way ,how you can prepare your fleeces for maximum return.

Kevin Gellatly was born in Morawa in the heart of the Western Australian wheat and sheep belt where he grew up as a farmers son.  The 6,000 acre family wheat farm also produced wool from flocks of 5,000 sheep.

Kevin started shearing at the age of 19 first working on the family farm and then formed together with other shearers to become a local shearing contractor managing three separate shearing teams servicing farmers in the North Midlands area which covers most of the vast Western Australian farming area.  Kevin contracted for 24 years building his reputation for being a high quality reliable business person.  Following on from selling his shearing business as a going concern, Kevin continued to provide free lance shearing for 7 years before being approached by a shearing equipment supplier to become their Western Australian sales & service representative.

Enjoying this role and travelling throughout the state, Kevin became interested in shearing alpacas and is now one of the most sought after alpaca shearers in Western Australia.  Kevin is working very closely with the Australian Alpaca Association and has recently added his expertise and produced the Shearing and Fibre Handling video which is now used throughout Australia to train alpaca shearing instructors who in turn run workshops to train sheep shearers in the art of getting premium quality fleeces off alpacas.  Kevin’s reputation amongst the alpaca industry in Australia is blossoming through his exposure in the video.

Kevin is service focussed and believes strongly that the role of the alpaca owner and roust about are of utmost importance.  The first question Kevin asks is “How would you like your alpacas shorn … you tell me what you want and I’ll do it”.
